A very early etching by the Impressionist Pissarro, this view of the massive rocks at Guyon reveals the artist’s painterly attitude toward printmaking. Using only the etched line and plate tone (a selectively wiped veil of ink intentionally left on the copper plate by the artist), Pissarro created a dramatic landscape filled with brilliant sunlight and soft shadows.
